    This is just a wild, uneducated guess, but after reading the article on refraction mentioned earlier; is it possible that there was an inverted refraction image and an upper limb taken for a lower limb?  
    The sun's semidiameter is about 15 minutes and 2 x 15 is 30.   Again, I have no knowledge, degree or other qualification.  "Just spit-ballin' here.
