Alex,
Yes I agree. My prior post retracted that statement about the terrestial refraction equaling the refraction of Sun LL.
Still, terrestial refraction of horizon gives curvature centered within the earth and raises the apparent position of the horizon.
The increase in air density caused by the cooling effect of the water increases that curvature further raising the horizon and producing the altitudes you saw.
