    Jeremy,

I assume that you were interested in "Moon center - Mercury" distances computed from the respective GPs.  These results are in the added third column:

    Local Time:    Ds                           Cleared LD
    18h 45m 42s  41 deg 5.7'             41 deg 53.9'
    18h 46m 36s  41 deg 6.3'
                 41 deg 54.4'
    18h 47m 15s  41 deg 6.1'             41 deg 54.8'
    18h 48m 00s  41 deg 6.8'             41 deg 55.1'
    18h 48m 42s  41 deg 7.0'             41 deg 55.5'

The Moon semidiameter was 15.4'.  The LD's are increasing with time and this trend (with the exception of the third data point at 18:47:15) is also seen in your observations.

I must thank everyone who provided data for me to solve this one.  I got a sight error of 0.2' which isn't too bad.

A ship is sailing in the Southern Seas and observes a lunar
distance between the near limb of the moon and the planet Mercury.

    Lat 36 deg 31'S
    Long 26 Deg 20.8'E
    Crs 246 Spd 15.5 Kts

    Index correction is -0.8'
    ZD -2
    Date 25 August 2009

The following data was taken for the lunar

    Local Time:    Ds
    18h 45m 42s  41 deg 5.7'
    18h 46m 36s  41 deg 6.3'
    18h 47m 15s  41 deg 6.1'
    18h 48m 00s  41 deg 6.8'
    18h 48m 42s  41 deg 7.0'

    Clear the Lunar Distance
