The ship was anchored off of the port of Yosu, Rep of Korea on 10 January 2009. Position was Lat 34 deg 39.2N; long 127 deg 59.0 E. Height of Eye is 109 feet, Temp is 0 deg C and Pressure 1017 mB. Index error is 0.8 on the arc. A very bored chief mate took the following observations of Venus centered around meridian transit time of 0645 UTC. The horizon in Korea and the East China Sea is far from perfect so expect some scatter. Find Lat and Long by celestial observation. Time Hs 1) 15h 15m 02s 45deg 22.5 2) 15h 21m 02s 45deg 36.6 3) 15h 30m 03s 45deg 43.8 4) 15h 35m 05s 45deg 54.1 5) 15h 40m 05s 45deg 57.0 6) 15h 25m 05s 45deg 41.8 7) 15h 42m 32s 45deg 57.2 8) 15h 43m 08s 45deg 57.2 9) 15h 43m 52s 45deg 57.8 10) 15h 44m 28s 45deg 57.6 11) 15h 46m 02s 45deg 57.4 12) 15h 46m 58s 45deg 57.4 13) 15h 48m 33s 45deg 56.7 14) 15h 50m 18s 45deg 57.0 15) 15h 55m 02s 45deg 54.7 16) 15h 58m 08s 45deg 49.5 17) 16h 00m 10s 45deg 49.5 I will send a pdf to this thread showing my worked solution.
