Re: Ex-Meridian Turkey Shoot Challenge Solution

For this turkey shoot ex-meridian challenge I was looking for the pair of equation (a)(t^2)/60 time values that sum to the 30 minutes difference between the before and after meridional passage ex-meridians.

The time values are 18.4 minutes and 11.6 minutes which sum to 30 minutes and work out to the same ex-meridian latitude of 34* 26.6' ( see linked index card image )

The time values also will give the UT time of meridional passage so that longitude can be figured using a time to arc calculation. (see linked index card image )

The actual position of the observer is 34* 26.8' N 120* 26.8' W . The small difference in position is the result of rounding to the nearest tenth for (a) and (t) formula values.

Another neat way to solve this challenge is with a graphical solution although not as precise. (see linked graph image)
