Oh but you can practice CN on the train. What you need is a bubble octant. Since you already know what train line you are on then all that is needed is a single LOP for a fix. Grab a Sun or Moon shot from a window seat and there it is bang you know which stations you are between after that short nap ;-)

My commuting time flies by fiddling around with this. :)
Next puzzle: implementing this using a slide rule instead of a scientific calculator. (i just love to go unplugged from time to time ;-) )
I just hope I'll achieve your sextant proficiency one day. (it can't be practiced on the train)
