    Engine Hour Meter
    From: Greg Rudzinski

    Bill,

The Hobb's hour meter on my ketch is powered by 12 volts and still runs after the engine is shut down. It is necessary to turn the engine key off to stop the meter. My fail safe is to hang the start key on the raw water through hull valve handle. This way I,m sure the hour meter is off when I leave the boat. When starting the boat the raw water through hull handle must be opened to get the key thus avoiding burning up the rubber pump impeller. A reasonable speed through the water can be had by RPM provided sea conditions are smooth. A word of caution on speed by rpm. I once was pounding through 50 kts of wind dead on the nose only to have negative speed made good with 2500 rpm showing on the rpm gauge.

Apologies all around. Hit send instead of spell check.

Examples below, but to the point are engine hours based on a time clock
    or rpm?....

A private aircraft is for ....

Recreational power boats may operated over a wide range of speeds/rpm
with widely-varying mpg/gpm and related engine wear.

Do "hours" account for this variable?

    Bill B.
