Andrew - I think you refer to the "miracle" of an eclipse of the sun. I agree that calling up an eclipse at the exact moment that someone threatens you, during time travel, is unlikely.
Perhaps, if you could really think on your feet, you might be able to recognize the beginning of an eclipse and command that the sun be darkened in time to take credit for it. My first thoughts of revelations to offer in the 7th century were in the realm of "Don't get on the Titanic" and "sell your stock before 1929/2000/2008". Not immediate enough results to save your neck.
Thinking about it, all I could hope to offer from memory would depend on talking to Merlin or some local wise person about scientific matters. I could "invent" a sextant, tell them where America was, advise boiling water before drinking it, make a wooden bicycle, or generally describe the motions of the heavens. Being realistic, most of that would probably get me burned at the stake anyway.
