    It doesn't use the GPS, I entered the location of my A.P.

    My guess. It plucks the time out of the air and/or Droids internal clock. GPS in Droid provides lat and lon. Internal level gives the uncorrected altitude. App's program/database does the rest.

    In Bruce Bauer's book, The Sextant Handbook" there are concepts, prototypes and photos of the next generation--sextants with digital readouts and inputs.

    Droid?  Who would have thunk it?
