    I assume you mean the color combination technique? That has actually been
    around for quite some time, but it requires different voltages for a number
    of leds in on pack. The 'phospher down convert' method that you mention
    (which has now been around for almost eight years...how time flies...it
    still seems brand new to me!) can have a CIE rendering of up to 85 now,
    better than all but the very best fluorescent 'warm white' bulbs. In any
    case, I would NOT use white in a sextant bulb, much better to use yellow or
    amber. (some prefer red for night work).There are some surface mount leds
    smaller than a grain of sand. Not sure what the app for them is!-Ken
