Thanks for the manuals' links. Very helpful.
As far as the pendulous versus bubble sextants' ease of use, on land I found the bubble quite easy to use, but have never seen one of the pendulous type. I imagine however the pendulous type may be more durable, as many of the bubble chambers I've seen had leaked.
