    Huh. I guess a little “stiction” goes a long way. I wonder if a drop of mercury in oil would suffer the same effect. Any physicists (or somebody with some mercury) have an opinion?

    Hi Paul,
    I tried the BB/ball bearing level several years ago and it didn’t work. As someone pointed out, there’s microscopic resistance to getting the ball rolling.
