    East China Sea Fix
    From: Jeremy C
    Date: 2008 Nov 13, 04:37 EST
Here is a daylight planet fix.  Unfortunately the sun was obscured by clouds to preclude a three-body fix.
    Date/Time 19 October 2008 UTC 08h 41m 00s
    0841Z Fix Lat: 26 deg 53.5' N  Long 129 deg 37.8' E
    Course 310 at 13.1 knots.
Height of eye is 107 feet, Index error is 0.7' on the arc, T/P 80 deg F at 1010 mB.
Venus was shot at UTC 08h 35m 48s with an Hs of 22 deg 54.4'
Jupiter was shot as an ex-meridian at UTC 08h 39m 48s with an Hs of 40 deg 22.9'
My manual ex meridian calculations gave me a latitude of 26 deg 52.5' N at 0840Z (see below for solution)
My computer gave me a 0841Z fix of 26 deg 52.8' N; long 129 deg 39.3' E by reducing both as standard LOP's.
    ex-meridian calculations:
    GHA hr 221 deg 43.0'
    t corr        9 deg 57.0'
    v corr (2.1)         +1.4'
    GHA     231 deg 41.4
    +Long   129 deg 37.8
    LHA          1 deg 19.2'
    "a" correction is 2.1  c= a(t^2)/60 = 2.1(5.3^2)/60= 0.98 = 1.0  [these corrections can be found in Bowditch tables etc]
Dec is S 22 deg 55.3' [ from Nautical Almanac, no correction due to time]
    Hs 40 deg 22.9'
    IC              -0.7'
    Dip            -9.9'
    Ha 40 deg 12.3'
    body          -1.1'
    Ho 40 deg 11.2
    corr          +1.0
    Ho' 40 deg 12.2
    Zdis = 90-Ho' = 49 deg 47.8'
Dec               - 22 deg 55.3' [Declination is opposite of Latitude and is therefore subtracted]
    Lat                  26 deg 52.5' North
