Be careful not to pick up too early an edition of Dutton. I bought edition 5 (1934) and it pre-dates even h.o. 211 which is my personal preference for sight reduction (Bayless table is compact and cheap). Two books that helped me out the most with learning CN (ala h.o. 211) are: Primer of Navigation by Mixter (1943) and An Intro. to Navigation and Nautical Astronomy by Shute, Shirk, Porter, Hemenway (1944) I wish I had this website: http://www.tecepe.com.br/nav/ and his Navigator program when I was first learning CN. Besides being able to generate NA-like pages (to save having to buy an NA annually), it is a fantastic tool for learning (double checking your work) CN. When just concentrating on picking up good sextant shooting skills, it is great for quickly reducing multiple sights and plotting them to see how accurate you are. Having spent time generating my own NA-like pages and reduction programs, I take my hat off to Omar F. Reis for the great work he has done (http://www.tecepe.com.br/nav/). -- Joe 40d34m N, 80d03m W
