My sextant came with a nice neck strap. I have always found it
handy.

Any old bootlace, even a suitably long piece of cord, tied to the sextants frame in two places makes a virtually "drop-proof" lanyard. Better yet, and the same cannot be said for sextants, the lanyard costs virtually nothing.
