Alan, IMS-3 is a naval version. It is a clone of a similar C. Plath sextant. It existed as air sextand and as a marine sectant, with some slight differences. I have a copy of complete description/ manual (in Russian), and Bill Morris has the real thing. If you give the e-bay listing number, I will be able to tell more precisely. This kind of sextant was designed by C. Plath for the use on U-boats when the horizon is poorly visible. I can even search among my files an article about US navy testing of this C. Plath sextant after the war. It seems that the Soviet version is very similar.
