NSA satillites are capable of VHF radio reception. There is a chance that a reported position from mid ocean will get transfered to the proper authorities even when there are no ships around. That is if big brother isn't being lazy.

You are presumably not in a sailing dory but a modern inflatable life raft with water ballast. You are going with the currentIf you have a VHF radio it is unlikely your position by sextant will add to the fact that you are in VHF range from 3 feet AGL.But then what do I know. Help me.
