Thank you, Paul, for this very detailed derivation of dip as a function of dn. Yes, indeed excellent! When analysing measured dips it could be interesting to describe dn further as a function of a temperature gradient and compare then the temperature gradient resulting from the observed dip with environmental data of the observation.
