Glenn Geers, You are referring to Dip Short - short of what would be the sea horizon because of intervening land causing the sea-land interface to be up against the far shore. The 1995 Bowditch (p. 340) gives the following equation for Dip Short: Ds = 60 arctan((hf/(6076.1 ds)) + ds/8268), arc min hf = height of eye of the observer above sea level in ft ds = distance to the waterline of the object in nm Ollie Jacobson ba238@lafn.org =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-= =-= TO UNSUBSCRIBE, send this message to majordomo@ronin.com: =-= =-= navigation =-= =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=
