    Bruce,

I use two linear polarizers together and rotated to show the Sun such that it isn't augmented by overexposure. The polarizers are held together out in front of the lens. The horizon is not polarized just the Sun. When in the electronic dark room (iPhoto) contrast, exposure, sharpness, etc. can be adjusted to define and sharpen the horizon.

Does some sort of polarizing filter improve the sight?
