    Yes, I know not to apply excessive torque to this thin walled brass tubing. Good suggestion to let whatever I use soak in for a day or two. I like your guideline for max torque. Very practical, and very informative. I'll send you pics.
    The long tube has an intriguing groove near the eyepiece. Doesn't look like it goes all the way through, but maybe, just maybe, it allows relief for an inner adjustable tube on which the eyepiece is mounted. I'll look more carefully.
