In connection with my recent misunderstanding of azimuths and azimuth angles I decided I should learn more about the diagrams on the introduction pages of Pub. 229. With a little help from Bowditch I was able to wrap my thick head around them. In the process, I drew a few diagrams of my own. Attached is the best example so far.
While I was absorbed in learning this, I tried explaining to my girlfriend what the diagram shows. (She literally reacted as if I was trying to get her to hold my pet skunk or something.) So, I was just sitting here trying to think of a better way to get the concept across. Then it hit me. I would design and build a 3D moving model of the diagram out of wire coat hangers! I'd have one circle to represent the meridian with an attached rotating arc to represent the azimuth and another... eh...I'll just whip up a 3D-ish picture in Photoshop instead. ;)
Also attached is a zipped Photoshop project file (.psd) with each component of the diagram on a separate layer so they may be added as they are explained. Thought maybe someone might find it useful. ...We'll see how my girlfriend reacts when she gets home. :D
Regards,
Sean C.
