    To answer your first point, sometimes the clocks do run backwards here
    in the southern tip (and other parts) of Africa. At other times we
    appear to be advancing in the right direction.
    
    And to answer your second point regarding South at the top of the map or
    chart - depends on how much you had to drink before looking at said map
    or chart. Now, with the new generation of electronic charts - well, I
    leave that to your imagination.

    I always thought of it as backing against the clock but maybe the clocks
    as well as the lows run backwards down there. On a related but different
    notion are the maps and charts of southern hemi countries printed with
