Nice work, Sherlock! My student is still in contact with the person she bought it from (although he is out of the country right now and not responding to emails) so I am beginning to suspect that she may be the third owner. I will forward this information to her.

Maybe this is the very same instrument that your student purchased. This may not have turned up in your earlier searches, since it was spelled with an extra "t": "Astra IIIB Sextant in like new condition.....new in 1994 it was never used.
