As a result of acquiring a Husun sextant that I could not date because it had no box or certificate, I have been collecting Hughes and Son serial numbers. Fortunately, their nautical sextants appear to have consecutive numbers, with the series probably beginning around about the year 1900. The date of the inspection certificate can be only a rough guide to date of manufacture and numbers, e.g 42930, are occasionally out of sequence. I would like to fill in more gaps, especially before 1940. Perhaps other readers of NavList can help?
