A few other Husun dates from which you might narrow down the date of yours.

    48657  28 June 1945
    49066  10 September 1945

The dates seem to become confused after this with later numbered certificates having an earlier date. For example:-

    50489 28 October 1946
    51743 4 September 1946
    51737 28 May 1946

I would assume that with the end of the war, the ongoing requirement for sextants ("All you can make as quickly as possible") was then cancelled forthwith and sextants going through production were put on the shelf, to be called off last-in-first-out as demand required.

From this, I would agree with Bill, your sextant was probably made in the closing months of 1945

    Hello,

I have just been refurbishing my old Husun sextant getting it ready to hang on the wall.  GPS took over a while ago.

The serial number is 49601 and I bought it as a brand new 3/Mate in 1964.  The certificate is dated 2/11/1964 but as you are aware this is probably not the date of manufacture. I wish I knew when it was actually made.  It's still in very good condition.  Probably last used in ernest in 1978
