I thought of this Bill.
Boring thick tube to correct diameter thin-walled tubing with accuracy needs specialist machine tools, and for a good finish a ground finish is required. If there is any over-thickness of the tubing in metal at the end of the process (depending on what you start with) then the weight goes up substantially.
The tube manufactures are the people who can produce fine quality tubing to a good finish and exact size. The only problem: the cost?
