Re: Cugle - longitude at sunrise and sunset

Navigators, by nature, are very conservative.

As this group has investigated other navigators log and work books, we have found REPETITION of method.  The method used today is the same as yesterday, and will be the same as tomorrow.

If you cannot show a single example of Noonan using a longitude by sunrise-sunset method for any other time, it is pure fantasy to expect Noonan used it on 2July1937.

Your proof appears to be missing.  Please provide either the proof or, failing that, admission that you are engaging in speculation.

It is generally known that he always used "Navigation Tables for Mariners and Aviators" by Dreisonstok , H.O.no.208 . His methods can also be translated from earlier stages of the world flight , of which the annotated air charts were sent home before July 2 . Hence , H.O.208 , short method but very effective and accurate ,is the Work Book you refer to . Sunset-sunrise calculations are the only in consideration for our purpose , so consulting pages 73 and 77 plus occasionally the explanations suffices to get the work done .
