In case you missed it on the news, a person has crossed Antarctica by foot, manhauling.

This was what Shackleton wanted to do on the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition, that instead turned into the wreck of the Endurance and the subsequent heroic crossing to South Georgia Island in the James Caird.
