Cougar Ace seen off Jamestown... What are the odds?
    From: Frank Reed
    Date: 2012 Apr 3, 08:16 -0700

Six years ago, a few of you may remember, I started a discussion about a ship that had rolled over on its side in the North Pacific. It was the 650-foot car carrier "Cougar Ace". Here's a link to that old message (with a photo of it on its side):

Yesterday, early evening, I was standing on the rocks at the southern end of Jamestown Island in Rhode Island enjoying the stunning views and the peaceful setting. Suddenly a huge vessel appeared in the channel between Jamestown and Newport heading out to sea. It was the "Cougar Ace". It was a bit like seeing a ghost. Seriously, what are the odds?

For your reading pleasure, here's a somewhat glamorized account of the salvage operation nearly six years ago:

I have included a photo of the ship I took yesterday evening.
