    National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, London
    Friday 7 May 2010
In collaboration with the Royal Institute of Navigation, the National
Maritime Museum is hosting a one-day symposium to showcase new research
    in the history of navigation.
The aim of the symposium is to bring together researchers engaged in
research relating to the history of navigation in order to map out the
current state of research and to discuss new directions for the future.
Proposals for papers on any historical period are welcome. Possible
themes might include, but would not be restricted to:
    - the development of navigational instruments, maps and charts and
    related techniques
    - the links between marine, land, air and space navigation
    - navigation as a profession
    - navigation in different cultures and the exchange of knowledge as a
    result of cultural encounters
    - the historical relationship between theory and practice
    - navigational training
    - new perspectives on established histories of the subject
It is anticipated that speaking slots will be of about 30 minutes,
    including time for questions.
To propose a paper for consideration, or for further information, please
send the title and abstract (approximately 200 words) to
