    The answers to your compass correction questions can be found starting at page 82 of Bowditch which Frank uploaded to Navlist here:

    But you still have to measuire the deviation on a number of headings, not just turn in a circle. 

    I asked many years ago how the electronic compassas in our cars and cell phones could be calibrated just by driving in a circle and there was an explanation given but i  don't remeber how it worked, perhaps you could search for that on the website.

    One other question, is "Flinder's bar" pronounced as "flinder" to ryme with "Flynn" as in  "Micky Flynn" or as "Flinder" as in to the "finder of your lost keys?"
