Great piece of work Greg. Well done!

I was gratified to see that your results with the A-12 octant are on a par with my own experience down the years. I was also interested to see that the A-12 performed best out of all the bubble sextants you tried, despite the fact that it is the simplest and that the arc can only be read directly to two MOA. I was not surprised though and this work confirms my conclusion that simple as the A-12 is, it is very well suited to in-land celestial navigation. Aquisition of stars is particulary easy compared to using a marine sextant and an artificial horizon.
