In searching for available alternatives to the Astra IIIB sextant, I've found that I can obtain a new Freiberger Yacht sextant.
While the Astra IIIB would seem to have clear advantage of readily available parts and accessories, I'm wondering whether some folks here might have perspectives on the relatively merits of the Freiberger Yacht Sextant.
Unlike the Freiberger Drum sextant, the Yacht model is 7/8's size, very lightweight at just 1.9 lb. It is also available in white for whatever advantage that might offer in tropical temps and has a somewhat expensive illumination accessory.
Also am curious about the implications of the Freiberger half-width glass mirror only (as opposed to half-silvered/half transparent full width glass on traditional horizon) approach?
