As an airline pilot I would have no problem with your endeavor, however your fellow passengers and cabin attendants might not be so understanding. Make sure the attendants know that it's not an electronic device; tell them you're star-gazing. Hope you have a clear window and no cloud layer above you and a smooth ride. Barring any severe weather, your flight path shouldn't stray more than 150 nm from the great circle path.
