    I just read the article interesting and nice images.
    I just found one minor thing confusing on the first "skim", in all literature I have found what is called (in the article) "proportional divider" seems to me to be a sector or proportional compass, I blame the printer gremlin.

    to me proportional dividers are dividers with slits that the hinge slides in and has points on both ends to do just proportions.here is a link showing one.
