    Clocks,Watches and Chronometers

I have a friend who was a specialty welder and loved clocks/watches. When his welding "days were over", he took a specialty course in clock repair. One thing led to another and now he travels over New England repairing ancient tower clocks in town halls, churches etc. Next time I see him I'll ask about chronometer repair and cleaning. I'll let NAVlist know .

These chronometers are really tough, but I imagine their accuracy diminishes. I think FitzRoy ( Darwin's Captain /Beagle) started with 15 chronometers (book by John and Mary Gribben which is a very readable book) and 5 hard years later 10 or 12 were working just fine.

From time-to-time,chronometers are available on ebay, and they are very collectable, but $ 1-2 K seems like a lot. The last time I looked a Casio Wave Ceptor WV58 DA watch with continuous time update is $ 49.99 ...for the non-purist.
