The clear glass has reflecting properties. It's easier to see the horizon and the celestial object simultaneously than to have the celestial object on the mirror side and the horizon on the clear side.
Same for me. I only use the clear glass. I use an AH and have no difficulty seeing both sun images in the clear glass. The downside is that only half the glass is available.
