Most contributors of this conversation seem to be in the USA. For UK based members interested in chronometers the name to know is John Cronin. John is one of just ten members of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers who is accredited by the Institute of Conservation as a professional clock conservator, and is the ICON specialist in chronometer work.
John Cronin authored a book "The Marine Chronometer, its history and development" ISBN 978-1-84787-185-2. It is an absorbing read.
