This morning our helicopter crew awake to sense the frigate in motion.  She’s sailing north at 20kts.  Still the new chopper must continue with its tests, but the Captain isn’t going to heave-to while we complete our flight.  Today we’ll plan to track east at 150kts as usual and arrive back at the frigate, wherever she be, after three hours.  The wind is still 30 knots from 030° true, but we’re going to have to allow for the frigate’s 20kts northerly track when working out how we’re going to find her again.  In fact, with the ship working, we might be recalled at any moment, so we need to know the heading to intercept the ship at any time.
Work out:
The heading to track east.
Assuming she maintains her speed and course, the heading to intercept the ship at any time.
The latest time we can turn back for the ship to arrive within three hours.
And the furthest east we’ll have travelled.
