A pilot has a plane which cruises at 150kts and has a safe endurance of three hours. As it’s a nice day, he decides he’ll fly east as far as possible and return to base along the reciprocal track. However, he’s informed that at cruising altitude he’ll encounter a wind of 30kts from the east. Calculate how far he should safely be able to fly east and after how many minutes flying east he must turn round and fly back west. DaveP
