Thread titles have a real purpose, in helping the process of information retrieval. So it's worthwhile choosing a relevant title, and changing a threadname when it has become irrelevant. Frank Reed had posted a message under the threadname "Thomas Jefferson and Lunar Obs.", which had no reference at all to Jefferson except as the recipient of a letter. He now adds that a web site at the address he gave, had it worked, would have led to further correspondence with Jefferson. My reply had even less of a connection with Jefferson than did his initial posting, so I gave it the following threadname- "Lunars by Moon declination. was: [NAV-L] Thomas Jefferson and Lunar Obs." This started- "Frank Reed quoted the following interesting letter (which had little >connection with Jefferson, except as the recipient)." Now Frank has responded > >There's more connection if you read further (I don't think there was any >need to bother with a new thread title!) ================ Well, thanks to Frank for those unasked-for words of advice, but it's up to me, not him, to choose an appropriate threadname to give to my postings. And up to him, of course, for his. George. ================================================================ contact George Huxtable by email at george@huxtable.u-net.com, by phone at 01865 820222 (from outside UK, +44 1865 820222), or by mail at 1 Sandy Lane, Southmoor, Abingdon, Oxon OX13 5HX, UK. ================================================================
