Recently I mentioned acquiring a copy of William Chauvenet's 20-page pamphlet, "Astronomy for US Naval Officers", dated 1868, which aroused a bit of list interest. Kieran Kelly, off-list, asked for a copy, so I have scanned and sent it. Now I have 11 files, each containing a scan of 2 pages of text, in TIFF format. It seems a pity just to delete them. If anyone would like a copy sent off-list, just let me know at george@huxtable.u-net.com within the next couple of days, and I will send these files as attachments to a short email message. Each file is about a megabyte, and I am aware that the space allocation of many internet providers is just 10 Megabytes, which the whole set would overrun. So I will wait a couple of days to see what requests come in, and then send a message with about half of the files, to anyone that asks. Then 24 hours later I will resend the rest of the files, presuming that by that time the input buffers will have been emptied. If that doesn't seem sensible, please say. It's well worth reading, by the way. George. ================================================================ contact George Huxtable by email at george@huxtable.u-net.com, by phone at 01865 820222 (from outside UK, +44 1865 820222), or by mail at 1 Sandy Lane, Southmoor, Abingdon, Oxon OX13 5HX, UK. ================================================================
