    Chart scales

In my recent LOP plotting exercises I used VP-OS sheets, on which 1 inch = 20 nautical miles.  I am curious to know whether this scale is considered somehow "standard" or whether there are any other frequently used chart scales that people work with in real life when doing CelNav.  I'd think that some scales are more suitable than others for this purpose and that this may be reflected in what paper charts have historically been available to navigators.

    Thanks for the info.
