Your degree symbol looked fine in Thunderbird under Windows XP. I too get a font mismatch when pasting from Character Map to Outlook Express. It only affects appearance on the local machine, and goes away if the draft message is closed then re-opened. It may help to set the Font drop-down in Character Map to match the font that Outlook Express is using. I never bother to do that, though. Another tactic is to get all the special characters you'll need from Character Map at one go. Paste them into a line of their own in the draft message in Outlook Express. Close the message, then re-open it. Now the fonts should match. Use that line as your source for copying and pasting special characters. If a piece of text will be read by many people, I think it's a thoughtful touch to use the right character rather than a makeshift. Sometimes this can backfire, however. The Unicode prime (′) and double prime (″) are supposed to be used for minutes and seconds, but I've found that, depending on the font, sometimes they won't render. It's safer to use the apostrophe and quote characters. (But I used the Unicode characters here.) In many cases I feel that degree, minute, and second symbols can safely be omitted. The context makes clear what you mean. For example, if you say Hs = 31 19.5, there should be no doubt about the units. -- I block messages that contain attachments or HTML. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Navigation List archive: www.fer3.com/arc To post, email NavList@fer3.com To , email NavList-@fer3.com -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
