"White had a sextant (by Troughton) made "in the beginning of XIX century" " Incidentally, in an article on the uses of Platinum in scientific instruments (!), I learned that a study done on Troughton "pillar sextants" found that the production rate was relatively constant so it's possible to determine the year when White's instrument was manufactured based on the serial number. It would have been 1814 (+/- a couple). -FER --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ To post to this group, send email to NavList@fer3.com To , send email to NavList-@fer3.com -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
