    Actually, the CDMA doesn't care what time it is, as long as they are all in 
    sync.  There are protocols for synchronizing the
    signal between phone, tower, main switches, and other networks.  It just 
    happens to be most convenient to use actual time
    from a fairly accurate source, and GPS is one way of doing it.  You will find 
    the CDMA time can be off a little at times, but
    major services, such as Verizon, try to keep it accurate.
