Frank mentioned the spreadsheet I wrote for my iPhone. It is called Solar_Sight_Calc.xls and can be found at http://public.me.com/gwbburg.
It uses a NOAA code to calculate the solar declination and the equation of time. It can then be used to calculate the latitude from a noontime solar sight, or the longitude from a morning or afternoon solar time sight. The latter calculation uses the noontime latitude as input, or you can input the latitude separately. It displays degrees and minutes for all the angles (and takes care of negative angles). Note that the green cells are output and the yellow cells are input.
I use the Sheet2 app to run this on the iPhone, but it would presumably work just as well with other excel emulators on other phones. In any case it may be useful as a template for other CN calculations. I also think it's pretty cool that you can write your own specialized smartphone app as long as you know how to spread sheet.
Cheers,
George B
