    It seems to me that Bligh was damned if he did take on the
    oligarchical group that seemed to run everything in NSW including the
    courts and damned if he did not. From what the artcle says, the common
    freemen were behind Bligh, but the people who ran everything were not
    happy with this stickler for the rules who didn't want to just hand
    out more land to keep them quiet. Perhaps that is what you should
    expect if the law is judged by a group of self-appointed oligarchical
    magistrates rather than democratic juries.
