This is the version of Java to download and install. Earlier versions of
Windows had a different Java shipped with them ("Java 1st edition"), and that
version may not work properly as Java 1st edition had no Swing components, a
UI part to Java.
What makes it more difficult to understand is that Sun decided to make a new
Java called Second Edition (j2se) but they kept the version numbers in the
"ones": 1.4.2. It makes things very confusing.
